Drink Tea. Hot. Iced. Ginger. Matcha. Drink tea every day.
At the beginning of my health journey, way long ago, when cleanses weren’t even a thing yet, I went to a health food store in NYC inquiring about best options to eliminate built up toxins (I ended up with volcano ash!). The extremely knowledgeable woman asked if I was drinking my teas.
What did that mean? I probed her and she gave me a laundry list of a variety of teas and their benefits, including being antioxidants and good for your gut health. Ever since then I think of tea as prevention and medicine in addition to enjoyment.
I rotate my teas depending on how my body’s feeling, what mood I’m in and what mood I want to be.
Here are 5 ways to get you started with your healthy tea habits.
“I think of tea as prevention and medicine in addition to enjoyment.
☑️ ICED TEA – a great alternative to sugary drinks because it can be flavored naturally with fruit and high quality fruit teas. I keep a big batch of Earl Grey flavored with additional natural orange tea in the fridge and drink it often through the day. It doesn’t have as much caffeine as coffee, but offers a nice kick to keep you going. Early Grey does double duty with metabolic boosting effects of black tea and antioxidant power of bergamot.
☑️ GREEN TEA – is touted as one of the healthiest teas high since it’s high in polyphenols, reducing inflammation (inflammation is the root cause of many health issues)and boosts your metabolic rate by increasing fat burning. Keep naturally flavored green iced tea in the fridge for easy access. I love peach! 🍑
☑️ GINGER TEA – from traditional tea bags or fresh ginger. I’m obsessed with fresh ginger “tea” – it increases your immunity and all around well being.
☑️ CHAMOMILE TEA – great for settling your stomach if feeling woozy and preventatively to keep your tummy in check.
☑️ DANDELION- regarded as a “liver tonic” detoxing the liver and improving digestive health. Losing water weight is an added bonus.
If you’re drinking tea often, try and get out of the habit of adding sweetener or cutting down. Once you get used it it, you’ll appreciate the flavors of the actual tea and you won’t miss it or the extra calories. I only occasionally add honey to “specialty drinks” like a matcha latte 💚 or turmeric golden milk 💛 – recipes coming soon.
